Exhibition runs Fri 27 Jul – Sat 18 Aug
Open Tuesday – Friday 10am – 5pm, Saturday 11am – 3pm
Suze van der Beek reduces the landscape tradition to its basic components (foreground, background and horizon) as a means of investigating the translation of space, light and movement from the world in front of the lens to the photographic image. Her intention is to engage viewers with an experience that is complex and subtle.
Blue Room is comprised of a small group of colour-field studies. The images are the result of Suze’s artist residency at Tasmania’s Narawntapu National Park.
During the residency van der Beek worked from the coast with an outlook towards Bass Strait. She pushed her reductive photographic method to its limits; emptying out the images so that they are composed almost entirely of colour, light and space.
Blue Room includes three Saturday afternoon sound performances with invited sound artists and musicians.
4 – 5pm Sat 4 Aug Emily Sheppard & Lucy Wilson: Violin & Cello
3 – 4pm Sat 11 Aug Joel Roberts: Guitar & Electronics
3 – 4pm Sat 18 Aug Nigel Farley: Recorded & live sound
