Friday Nights Live brings you live, Tassie music at the Moonah Arts Centre every Friday in July and August 2019. Meet your friends, bring your family, swing by after work, wind down for the end of the week, relax, open your ears, and settle in for a cosy evening out.

It’s the weekend before NAIDOC and we welcome all your families to celebrate the culture and song of our First Nations artists!
Featuring the Deadliest voices: Uncle Dougie Mansell, Dewayne & Tumaia Everett-Smith, Warren Mason, Ruth Langford, Michelle Maynard with Aboriginal dancer Djuka Hart and artist Takira Simon-Brown.

SILVERWOOD and KELLI MILLER
Tasmania’s premier flute ensemble, Silverwood and Kelli Miller present Night World. Enter the world of the night through this stunning presentation of photography and music, capturing the beauty and fragility of Tasmania at night. Night landscapes, the Aurora Australis and the starry world above us blend to create a powerful, evocative concert.
HOBART SOCIETY OF RECORDER PLAYERS
Members of the Hobart Society of Recorder Players present an eclectic program including the premiere of a new work by young Tasmanian composer Claire Farrell.

Premiering at MAC, Magic Carpet is a night of cultures embracing. Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia all have an international language in common: music! Featuring members of “Teahouse”, the “Mambo Afro Trio”, Nepalese Band “Artha” and friends speaking the musical language of their heritage.

Folk, roots and blues – the rich harmonies of songwriter duo Hui & the Muse are followed by the Black Swans of Trespass with postmodern trad folk funk banjo.
HUI & THE MUSE
Hui Tocker and her muse Peter Hicks are both strong voices in the Tasmanian Folk, Roots and Blues scene. They have combined two worlds, Hui’s Maori and Jewish heritage and Peter’s passion for justice, to bring you rich harmonies, soaring vocals and soulful melodies.
BLACK SWANS OF TRESPASS
The Black Swans of Trespass will seriously trespass on your imagination. CC Thornley brings banjo out of the bluegrass closet and in to the modern world with a mixture of jazz, folk, Latin and Jamaican styles on the electric banjo. Funny, irreverent and eminently musical, The BSoT is more of a show than a gig.

Origami Island fold out into a 4-piece folk/funk band with a uniquely chill and groovy vibe. They have a seriously skilled guitarist and a vocalist who’s sound is in-between Vera Blue and Ariana Grande.
Adrian Hayes is a seriously talented multi-instrumentalist with a Funky Rocking vibe.

Chill out with emerging Tasmanian singer/songwriter Tuli Morris, followed by Blue Chilli, bringing you soulful and spicy gypsy, swing and Paris jazz.
Blue Chilli’s music spins a beguiling web around its audiences. Move to a mix of gypsy bossas, Paris jazz, blues and some quirky originals. Marcia Flude’s soulful voice is spiced with jazzy guitars, bouzouki, clarinet, keys and tasty percussion. A feast for the senses!
Emerging singer/songwriter Tuli Morris may still be at school, but she packs a mean voice into a mature song.

Beautiful and unpredictable – an evening of improvisation.
The surging vocals and tribal rhythms of Philomath in a uniquely dark and playful set of improvised and experimental music. They feed off the crowd and their environment to reach a climactic musical harmony.
DANI KIRBY AND MAT WARD
Dani Kirby and Mat Ward bring you an improvised post-classical duet featuring piano, bass guitar and extraordinary vocals from Dani.

A night of big jazz at MAC.
The MOB (McEntie Ottaway Bigband) brings Kelly Ottaway (The Modern Operatives) and Stephen McEntie (BabaBruja) together for the first time in what will be THE Tasmanian Bigband!
Talking of big sounds, The Crystelles (two Crystals and an Ellie) are a 3-piece, all women jazz band, bringing smooth, grooveable jazz and RnB to the MAC.

Mama Smooth is Tasmanian funk & dub Diva, Nelle Degrassi in her newest musical incarnation. Complemented by the talents of Mr Tim Duffy on double bass and Mr Mitch Partridge on rhythms. This dynamic trio will seduce you heart with unbeatable sass and satirical wit.
ZAC HENDERSON AND KATIE WILSON
Described as an exotic mix of fusion roots and soulful groove, they play funk, jazz and gypsy, laced with otherworldly sounds. Zac Henderson and Katie Wilson bring sensitive and delicate song writing, laced in clever lyricism and stories from a relatable upbringing, ripe with humour, wit and emotion.
