Travels with my Needle, Hook and Threads

by Anna Phillips

Friday 25 September – Saturday 24 October 2026

Exhibition Launch: 5:30pm, Thursday 24 September 2026

Travels with my Needle, Hook and Threads brings together two decades of plastic-based artworks by artist Anna Phillips. Drawing on her years living and working in Central Asia, the exhibition traces the evolution of her practice and the traditional techniques she learned from local women, artisans and community makers who shared their knowledge of stitching, winding, knotting and construction.

This exhibition invites audiences to reconsider plastic as a creative and expressive artistic medium. Through skilled craftsmanship and innovative processes, Phillips transforms an often-overlooked material into works of beauty and meaning, prompting reflection on our relationship with consumption, waste and the natural world.

Entry to the galleries is free.

6.45pm: Honmono no Gaijin
7.45pm: rā bellatrix
8.40pm: ミエミエ (emi emi)

Experimental J-pop icon, エミエミ (emi emi) is launching her highly anticipated, self-titled debut EP, live at Moonah Arts Centre this October!

Born and raised in Lutruwita/Tasmania to her Launcestonian mum and Japanese dad, ミエミエ (emi emi) sings in a playful mix of Japanese and English, fusing hyperpop-inspired club tracks with upbeat, bubbly J-pop.

The launch of her first EP (co-written and produced with Charlie Pyecroft and Jack Mclaine) reflects years of experimentation and a deepening connection to her cultural roots, marking her evolution into one of Tasmania’s most interesting songwriters.

Joined on stage by friends and collaborators, Charlie Pyecroft (vocals, synth, DJ) and backup dancers Risa Muramatsu-Ray and Eri Muloolly-Hill Konishi, don’t miss this joyous and mesmerising live celebration!

Special guests on the night will be Honmono No Gaijin, a cross-cultural duo celebrating the vibrant musical traditions of Japan’s southern islands and we are thrilled to announce special guest rā bellatrix has been added to the line-up of performers! She’ll be joined by her band to perform their intoxicating fusion of alternative RnB, EDM and dark pop. They will also be joined by GOMs AKA Emma, Nina & Lisa, who will transform the Moonah Arts Centre Makers Workshop into their Shoobridge Street living room for karaoke.

We regret to announce Yulan and Blaise will no longer be able to perform as part of the line-up. Refunds are available to current ticket holders.

Audience members under 18-years-old are welcome with a responsible adult.

Lethe Continuing

Shanae Aziz

Friday 30 October – Saturday 21 November 2026

Exhibition Launch: 5:30pm, Thursday 29 October 2026

In Greek mythology, Lethe is the name of a river that flows between the realms of death and sleep. Referred to as the “River of Unmindfulness”, the Lethe inflicted forgetfulness, triggering a thoughtless wandering through tides of the subconscious.

Lethe Continuing is an exhibition by Shanae Aziz, exploring memory and subconscious dreamscapes, mingling the familiar and unsettling through illustration and wood-based processes.
Shanae Aziz is a Nipaluna/Hobart-based artist whose practice focuses on themes of mythmaking, memory and the further subconscious.

Entry to the galleries is free.

Listening with the Elders

Lila Meleisea

Friday 30 October – Saturday 21 November 2026

Exhibition Launch: 5:30pm, Thursday 29 October 2026

Listening with the Elders presents an evolution of Lila Meleisea’s SA/MOA Project (2025) bringing together Samoan and Tasmanian Aboriginal cultural knowledge and histories through contemporary art.

Inspired by Bending Branches — an exhibition presented at Moonah Arts Centre in 2025 — Lila Meleisea has collaborated with Tasmanian Aboriginal artists from the Karadi Men’s Shed and young emerging Tasmanian-Samoan artist Mali Davis. Through listening, sharing and making, artists from the Karadi Men’s Shed work with Meleisea to carve Lutruwita-inspired upeti, Samoan pattern boards used in traditional siapo (Samoan barkcloth) making, while Davis uses film and sound to tell stories of place, identity and connection.

Drawing on designs from the TMAG barkcloth collection and traditional Samoan siapo patterns, Meleisea brings Tasmanian plant dyes and carved upeti into a new conversation between Samoa and lutruwita/Tasmania. Together, the works weave memory, place and ancestry across three generations, creating space for cultural exchange, relationship and shared authorship.

Entry to the galleries is free.

From the Farm

Lucy Edgington

Friday 30 October – Saturday 21 November 2026

Exhibition Launch: 5:30pm, Thursday 29 October 2026

From the Farm explores the physical and emotional realities of working the land — the beauty, heartache, responsibility and contradictions inherent in farming.

For Lucy Edgington, farming is familiar ground, both necessary and problematic. It can be beautiful and it can be bloody tough. Through her ceramics practice, she explores the uncomfortable space of ‘not knowing’ through unpredictable materials and processes.

From the Farm holds the tension between life and death, and the hard but necessary decisions that need to be made. As a white Australian working on unceded land, Edgington reflects on the complex histories of land ownership, farming and belonging. The works are grounded in materials foraged from the farm, including clay from the dam, bones from feral cats, rocks from the quarry and fibres collected from well-loved sheep.

Entry to the galleries is free.
