Event Details
Tania Price’s paintings are based on images taken from media coverage of the global refugee crisis and associated issues and events.
For most of us, the refugee experience is something viewed from a distance, mediated by the protective digital screens that deliver us news from around the world. We are bombarded with imagery of mass migration and a global refugee situation in crisis, yet those ubiquitous images often pass through our daily lives with little affect.
Rarely do we stop before a media image, and rarely does a media image stop before us.
Through painting, Price suspends these fleeting digital images. Painting – a medium which is slow, lasting, and saturated in tradition – allows the subject matter to be exposed and examined, inviting the viewer to experience it differently.
Breaching Borders asks us to look more closely and more critically at the images we receive through various media platforms, to really experience them, and to allow them affect us.
