4pm – 6.30pm: Book Launch (FREE Event)

7pm – 9pm: Live Concert ($10)

Join us at Moonah Arts Centre for two special events to launch the book Dream Burnie by Justin Heazlewood (of Bedroom Philosopher fame).

Dream Burnie contains over 300 colour pages featuring stories of some of the North-West Coast of Tasmania’s most successful artists. A nostalgic bus-trip of humorous dalliances on life in a small town.
An art book, time capsule, memoir. It’s niche. It’s now. It’s 1995.

“A book about dreaming big (or sideways, inside out, upside-down) in small places and understanding that it is unassuming towns like Burnie that can make the most wonderful, out-there artists in the country.”
Anna Krien

From 4pm – 6:30pm we start with a relaxed afternoon for everyone, with music and a pop-up art exhibition in the foyer of Moonah Arts Centre by artists from the book. There will be live book readings from Justin and an opportunity to purchase a copy of Dream Burnie.

From 7pm, there will be a special concert featuring Justin Heazlewood (The Bedroom Philosopher), performing a one-off set of some of the first songs he ever wrote when he was eighteen. This includes the anthemic, iconic ‘Smells Like Hellyer Spirit’ which hasn’t been performed in public since 1998. Also ‘Vee-Dub’ about his mum’s 1972 Volkswagen Superbeetle.

Justin will be followed by Marist College’s own, DJ Twinkle Digitz – a retro futuristic one-man band and sonic gymnast onstage, trapezing between pulsating synths, slinky guitars, LARGE beats and spicy vocals.

Book launch from 4-6.30pm FREE
Tickets for the 7pm concert $10
