EAGLE TARN

Peter Maarseveen

Friday 14 February – Saturday 15 March

Exhibition Launch Event: 5.30pm, Thursday 13 February. Free event, all welcome.

In 1946, Peter Maarseveen’s grandfather and his friends built a ski hut on Eagle Tarn at Mount Field. This has been a special place for the artist, first visiting the site when he was just four weeks old.

In 2024, he spent a week on Eagle Tarn as part of an Arts Tasmania Wilderness Residency, exploring the process of making chemicals for developing photographs using native plants. This exhibition presents the photographs taken during this time on Mount Field, that were developed via firelight in Eagle Tarn hut, using the chemicals made from the plants featured in the photos.

Peter Maarseveen is a Tasmanian photographic artist who primarily uses alternative analogue processes. He is building a darkroom at his Derwent Valley property which will use solar power, rainwater and compostable low-toxic plant-based chemicals.
