Do you have an interest in learning the basics of drawing, painting and design or would you like to refresh or improve your understanding on the 7 ELEMENTS of ART?

Join Claire Sheppard for a series of 7 workshops covering the 7 elements of Art, specifically designed for those who want to learn the basics of drawing, painting and design, even if they believe they can’t.

Irrelevant of talent, technical skill, or ability, these workshops will give you the confidence and practical knowledge to confidently apply the 7 elements of Art to all your creative pursuits in a none judgemental and fun environment.

You will develop your very own unique individual mark making signature, gaining confidence and appreciation in visually expressing it whilst reaching your own creative goals.

Each workshop begins with a slide show of relevant artworks/artists that resonates strongly with the element being explored. This will give you a broader understanding of how each element CAN be translated into a visual expression of your own imagination and choosing. It will also give you endless inspiration and ideas.

Each 4hr workshop will be held on Saturday mornings (11am – 2:30pm) at a cost of $30 per workshop, or a one-off payment at a 10% discounted rate for $189 for all seven workshops.

There are two series coming up: 23 Mar – 13 Jul and 27 Jul – 26 Oct

Workshop 1: LINE

Sat 23 Mar 2019 or Sat 27 Jul 2019

11am – 2:30pm

$30 (or $189 for 7 workshops)

In this first workshop folk will learn the most fundamental mark making element – LINE an element used in every other element of the art making process. These Workshops explore “line” and discover how it can be used in its most simple form and expanded upon to create complex drawings, compositions and sculpture

Workshop 2: SHAPE

4 May 2019 or 10 Aug 2019

11am – 2:30pm

$30 (or $189 for 7 workshops)

These workshops teach participants to distinguish & recognise shape in everything from the most basic to most complex objects or life forms. Learning this basic skill gives a foundation to build upon in transforming basic sketches into realistic art works. You will be surprised at how this skill inspires & gives confidence to tackle many varied projects and/or art mediums.

Workshop 3: SPACE

18 May 2019 or 24 Aug 2019

11am – 2:30pm

$30 (or $189 for 7 workshops)

In this workshop participants learn about understanding SPACE and the relationships things have with each other in order to create impressive compositions. It also delivers a great tool to express their ‘intention, to create ‘atmosphere’ and/or ‘impact’ in image making. Understanding Negative SPACE, positive SPACE, Distance, Perspective, and learning the many tips and tricks and techniques to give the ‘illusion of space’ or ‘statement’ adds boldness, confidence and strength in artworks.

Workshop 4: VALUE

1 Jun 2019 or 7 Sep 2019

11am – 2:30pm

$30 (or $189 for 7 workshops)

This workshop teaches how “VALUE” dramatically enhances or detracts in image making. It helps define form, create spatial and atmospheric illusions, textures, contrasts & many other effects in confident artwork. This workshop gives participants a clear understanding of this fundamental concept, and how to apply it. It gives a guaranteed sense of achievement in reaching any artistic goal whilst adding a real sense of confidence and value to any artwork.

Workshop 5: FORM

15 Jun 2019 or 28 Sep 2019

11am – 2:30pm

$30 (or $189 for 7 workshops)

Everything has FORM. In this workshop we explore a dynamic world of art making experiences, discovering a plethora of recyclable materials in order to understand the concept of FORM through sculpture. In addition, we learn the skill of creating 3 dimensional forms on 2 dimensional planes. We touch on analytical FORM, a skill describing the elements and principles of art working together, all giving us a greater understanding to both making art and art appreciation.

Workshop 6: TEXTURE

29 Jun 2019 or 12 Oct 2019

11am – 2:30pm

$30 (or $189 for 7 workshops)

This workshop discovers the joy of visually translating the ‘fascinating world of tactile textures’ and/or, adding an actual tangible quality into, or onto our art. Using mediums and clever techniques learnt in the elements of art thus far covered, we create an assortment of textured aesthetics from which we can draw upon to add to the mood, feel or look of our artistic objectives, resulting in a real ‘wow’ factor. Achieving a visual of a fragile transparent water droplet sitting on an opaque velvety succulent, is an incredibly satisfying skill to have.

Workshop 7: COLOUR

13 Jul 2019 or 26 Oct 2019

11am – 2:30pm

$30 (or $189 for 7 workshops)

COLOUR – Looking at the colour wheel we learn basic colour theory. We look at how light, shadow, reflections and other factors affect colour and why these factors need consideration when colour mixing. We delve a little into the meanings and perceptions of colour, and how colour can communicate various messages and moods in our work. Understanding this element will hone our observational skills and give greater confidence in realizing artistic ideas.
