Glenorchy Geosonic explores the geological bedrock beneath Glenorchy through sound.

Artist, Sean O’Connell builds electronic audio oscillators, capable of capturing the sound produced when electricity moves around inside rock samples. The sound is unique to each rock, changing as electrons jump across grains and angle around crystalline geometries, expressing their structure and geographical location.

Experimenting with stacks of thinly sliced, locally sourced rock samples – including quartz-filled sandstone of Dogshear Point, hard crystalline dolerite from Mt Hull and the fine limey mudstones of Tolosa St Quarry – O’Connell extracts the quintessential rock music of Glenorchy.

Entry to the galleries is free.
