Glenorchy in Watercolour
Through the eyes of Mollie Tomlin
Friday 15 November – Saturday 21 December 2024
Launch event: 5.30pm, Thursday 14 November
This exhibition features watercolours of historic Glenorchy landscapes, painted by local art hero, Mollie Tomlin.
Mollie Tomlin (1923-2009) lived in Moonah and Glenorchy for most of her life. Although her interest and talent for art were recognised during her school years, it wasn’t until age 50 that Mollie found time to enrol in adult education art classes and rekindled her passion for drawing and painting. Mollie was a highly successful artist, she received numerous commissions, including the production of watercolour maps and illustrations for the “Glenorchy 1804-1964/1964-1998” books by Alison Alexander and 10 large paintings of Glenorchy buildings as part of the Council’s Australian Bicentennial celebrations in 1988. In 1989, Mollie was awarded the Australia Day Citizen Award in recognition of the historical record created by her many art works.
These artworks are from the Glenorchy City Council collection and displayed here in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Glenorchy being proclaimed a city.
