The Hobart Society of Recorder Players presents a concert featuring music from England, Italy, Netherlands, Italy and the USA, ranging from the Renaissance to the present day.
The concert will include works by Renaissance masters Gasparo Pietragrua and Frescobaldi, sacred songs by Alonso de Tejada and Jan Sweelinck, an early baroque sonata by Antonio Bertali, the hilarious Toy Symphony often attributed to Joseph Haydn, 20th-century works by Colin Touchin, Allan Rosenheck, Rudolph Lerich, Harald Genzmer, and a new work written especially for the Society by up-and-coming Tasmanian composer Claire Farrell.
Recorders to be heard will extend in size from the little soprano to the enormous contrabass which stands almost two metres high. And yes, there will be musical toys for the Toy Symphony – a cuckoo, a nightingale, a quail, a plastic trumpet and a toy drum!
