i, kitty’s confessional is an invitation to experience a playful and personal reimagining of well-known stories through the medium of ceramics. It also explores the idea of catharsis through creative ritual.

i, kitty’s ceramic dioramas draw inspiration from folk art, mythology, animation and gentle nana wisdom to create sculptures unashamedly sentimental to the artist. As part of the artistic process, it has become a deeply personal practice to embed written anecdotes within these sculptures — including confessions of guilt and shame. During the firing process, the anecdotes are burnt, releasing the artist from burden.

Following i, kitty’s example, visitors to this exhibition are invited to participate by writing down their own stories to submit, giving them an opportunity to let go of anything they may have been holding onto. The donated confessions can be placed inside a funerary jar to be high-fired after the exhibition, transforming them into part of the internal glaze.

Entry to the galleries is free.
