Opening 6pm Thurs 8 Feb
Exhibition runs Fri 9 Feb – Sat 3 Mar
Margaret was born at Austins Ferry and still lives and paints in Glenorchy.
As a child she attended art classes at the Hobart Technical College. As an adult she travelled widely in Australia and picked up her art production receiving a Diploma in Visual and Applied Art from the North Adelaide School of Art. It was in Adelaide that she was to achieve a profile as an artist mainly painting portraits and what she calls her “chook pictures”.
Margaret won many prizes and the Minister for the Arts in South Australia bought one of her prize winning “chook paintings” leading to her becoming known in art circles as the “Chook Lady”.
While chickens remain a favourite subject for Margaret her oeuvre includes landscapes, garden scenes, portraits and various animal pictures. Margaret’s confident painting style reflects the styles prominent when she was training but which still have relevance today.
This exhibition is the first solo show Margaret has presented for the Moonah Arts Centre and it will be a unique opportunity to enjoy the work of a very talented senior resident of Glenorchy.
