“This exhibition represents a tipping point in my life, and although thematically diverse, for me these paintings will always be a reminder of how I struggled with the fears of letting go of one life, to ultimately emerge stronger and happier into another.”
Nicholas Hopwood is a realist oil painter, working from his studio in Tahun’e-Linah/the Huon Valley. In 2020, he swapped working as a mechanic for full-time painting and has since been awarded the 2021 Henry Jones Art Prize People’s Choice. He is also a finalist in this year’s Darling Portrait Prize, held at the National Portrait Gallery of Australia. Nicholas has recently presented his first solo exhibition Box Forts and Kokeshi, which focused on beauty in the everyday experiences of home life.
