Join us for this amazing monoprinting workshop, run in conjunction with the exhibition Push, Pull, Press at Moonah Arts Centre, with Dr Yvonne ReesPagh, Jennifer Marshall, Milan Milojevic.

Historically referred to as “the painterly print,” monotype, or monoprinting, is the only printmaking process intended for creating one unique, unrepeatable impression. Throughout art history this process has been used as an alternative means of mark making developed by the hands of rebellious painters. As such, monotype has always been about experimentation and breaking away from the traditional.

This workshop approaches monoprinting in a unique way: draw and paint in color with rollers, brushes, and palette knives or whatever can make an exciting mark. Experiment using different mark-making techniques onto acetate plates and then transfer your images onto paper using an Akua pin press.

Unlike many other printmaking methods which are often very time consuming and restrained, monoprinting allows the print artist more freedom of expression and speed of printing.

The workshop will be using oil based inks and odourless solvent (a safer option than using gum or mineral turpentine as it has low toxicity and is odour free).

Participants are asked to bring drawing materials and an object of personal interest and relevance as a catalyst for creativity!
