Mother Nature – My Muse: Harvest reflects a deep connection to the natural environment.
Annie Beecroft’s installation uses basket weaving techniques and natural materials. The colours and tones of autumn – the harvest season – are woven into the work. Many of the materials that Annie uses for weaving and eco-dyeing are harvested during the autumn, tying her practice closely to the cycle of seasons.
Annie’s enduring connection with the natural world began as a child. Growing up in the 1950s, she was encouraged to be outdoors and allowed to roam through the bushland.
Mother Nature – My Muse: Harvest incorporates foliage, stalks, fruit, seeds and flowers, sourced from a variety of plants including native species, vegetables, ornamental plants and weeds. Many of these plants grow in our gardens or can be responsibly foraged in the local environment.
