MUSIC IN EXILE’S 5TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR

Featuring —

Medhanit, Chef Chung & Alcides Neto

Doors 7pm, Saturday 10 May

Tickets $20-$25

Celebrate five years of Music in Exile at Moonah Arts Centre with a night of live music from Medhanit, Chef Chung and Alcides Neto. Experience a mix of contemporary sounds, cultural influences, and dynamic performances from artists pushing creative boundaries.

Music in Exile is a not-for-profit record label and artist services organisation aimed at increasing access to resources and building professional networks for artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds working in the music industry. Operating on an ‘artist first’ principle, ensuring that individual artists have ownership over the tools and resources necessary to build viable careers for themselves in our industry, thereby contributing to ongoing change and working to build an arts sector that truly respects the myriad viewpoints and experiences to be found in Australian society.

Artist Bios –

Medhanit

Medhanit is an Ethiopian-born musician hailing from Lutruwita/Tasmania. Penning provocative lyrics exploring themes such as identity, culture, race and love, and how they intersect, Medhanit’s songs have been described as ‘an assertive blend of youthful production and introspective lyrics’.

After touring as a live vocalist with PNAU, collaborating with Holy Holy on single “Neon St” and their most recent Like A Version on Triple J, Medhanit is looking forward to returning to Lutruwita/Tasmania with Music in Exile.

Chef Chung

Chef Chung makes cinematic magic with his far-reaching twist on alternative hip hop.

His form is a blend of influences, fusing 70s soul and 90s r&b, with touches of modern electronic and trap to create a vivid sonic soundscape.

Expressing a stream of consciousness, Chef Chung seeks to embrace individuality, reflecting his everyday experiences and channelling his voice through experimentation.

Alcides Neto

Alcides Neto is a Melbourne-based composer, musician, and multi-instrumentalist. He draws inspiration from the folk music of his homeland, blending traditional and contemporary styles to offer a unique take on Brazilian music. Alcides is known for his distinctive guitar playing, which translates the rhythmic intricacies of traditional Brazilian percussion directly to his fingers. He is currently working on his debut album, Amuleto, set for release in September 2025.
