Nacht II is an immersive experience led by three international masters of creativity, where powerful live vocals, electronic soundscapes and generative visuals converge to create a world in which sound and light transform the senses.
Energizing and invigorating audiences across Australia and New Zealand on their national tour, this musical project will be presented in Lutruwita/Tasmania at Moonah Arts Centre for one evening only.
Featuring:
Loïc Varanguien de Villepin — counter tenor vocalist and poet
Franck Vigroux — composer, producer and sound artist
Antoine Schmitt — generative video artist, addressing the processes of movement
NACHT II is an invitation to watch three virtuosic artists collaborate to express the idea of transformation. Haunting vocals – from lyrical to guttural – are layered over electronic music – abrasive to atmospheric – and accompanied by minimal, monochromatic generative images, projected onto a large screen to complete this immersive audio-visual world.
A synesthetic and contemplative proposition, this is a physical, sensory experience where the environment, landscape and elements create an inexhaustible source of inspiration and creativity.
Artists:
Franck Vigroux produces a universe in which electronic and contemporary music, theatre, dance and video intersect. After a long period in the “underground” experimental music scene, his work in the early 2000s has evolved to embrace new artistic practices and stage writing. He produces “concept albums” that dwell within and between the realms of storytelling, music, and experimental film. His concerts take the form of audiovisual performances and synesthetic experiences, a multi-disciplinary approach that centers electronic soundscapes amidst sensorial spectacle : “Flesh” (2018), “Forêt” (2021) “Chutes” (2023).
Installation artist, Antoine Schmitt creates artworks in the form of objects, installations and situations to address the processes of movement in all of their modalities, and question their intrinsic conceptual problematics, of plastic, philosophical or social nature. Heir of kinetic art and cybernetic art, nourished by metaphysical science-fiction, he endlessly interrogates the dynamic interactions between human nature and the nature of reality. Originally programming engineer in human computer relations and artificial intelligence, he places the program, a contemporary artistic material and unique by its active quality, at the core of most of his artworks, to reveal and literally manipulate the forces at stake. Antoine Schmitt has also undertaken an articulation of this approach with more established artistic fields like music, dance, architecture, literature or cinema, and has collaborated with Franck Vigroux, Atau Tanaka, Vincent Epplay, Jean-Jacques Birgé, Delphine Doukhan, K.Danse, Patrice Belin, Don Nino, Cubenx, Alberto Sorbelli, Matthew Bourne… As theoretician, speaker and editor of the gratin.org portal, Antoine Schmitt explores the field of programmed art.
Loïc Varanguien de Villepin is an artist trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Bordeaux in Lyric and Dramatic Arts between 1996 and 2000. Since then, he has pursued his training as a singer and actor through workshops with professionals such as Yoshito Ohno and Claudia Triozzi. In 2001, he and Romain Jarry founded the Compagnie des Limbes, for which they have directed over twenty plays, focusing on the creation of a “theater of the poem”. Loïc Varanguien de Villepin has also acted in several plays in recent years, including Copi’s “Les Quatres Jumelles” and Sarah Kane’s “Crave”. As a singer, he specializes in the classical repertoire as a contralto, but also explores baroque and contemporary repertoire. Since 2012, he has turned to vocal performance with electronic music composers, working in particular on noise and the imitation of birdsong. In 2015, he created Les Bazis, an artist residency in Ariège offering an experimental space for performance and dance in the heart of the Pyrenean forest.
