Make with MAC! In this online workshop, artist Roz Wren will guide you through making a wall hanging using recycled materials and homemade dyes.

Recommended for ages 3–8 (with some help from parents)

You will need:

– an old T-shirt, scissors
– a stick or disposable chopstick
– some string
– 2-3 bowls
– a spoon or folk
– 2-3 homemade fabric dyes, or more if you like (see different recipe options below) – Roz will talk about how to use these in the video.

HOMEMADE DYE RECIPES
Food colouring dyes
– 1 cup cold water
– 1 tsp food colouring
Use more colouring for a darker colour, OR less for paler colours

Yellow
– 1/2 cup hot water
– 1 teaspoon tumeric
Be careful, this stains everything!

Brown
– 4 teabags
– 1 cup boiling water
Place tea bags in a bowl and pour on boiling water (ask an adult to do this). Leave to soak for 10 minutes.

Pale purple
– 1 cup dried black beans (also known as turtle beans)
– 2 cups boiling water place beans in a bowl and pour on boiling water (ask an adult to do this). Leave to soak for 30 minutes at least.
