Moonah Sounds of the World is a concert series celebrating the rich diversity of culture, music and dance in Tasmania, featuring our local multicultural communities.
In response to the COVID-related cancellation of the usual flagship multicultural event, Moonah Taste of the World, we present five evenings to showcase the incredible talent of more than 17 different acts from our community. Join us at MAC and be transported around the world to celebrate music and dance. Selecta DJ Girlzila will be spinning some Global Beats at all shows.

In addition, there is a series of nine free public workshops in conjunction with the Moonah Sounds of the World concerts, as well as two Moonah Bazaars. There is no need to book – simply come along!

MMT – the mega talented Madi Musicians from South Sudan, Hita Man and Rasta Jay. These energetic MC’s rip up the stage with their brand of Badman style East African Dancehall. Their songs are in a mixture of Madi language and English.
Mambo Afro Trio – Marrying the music of Malawi and South Africa: Kwela, Mbube and Mbaqanga with Flamenco, Samba and High Life
Fabio Chivhanda – Original Mbira music from Zimbabwe

Join the Dancing Divas for a fusion of Indian classical Bharatanatyam, Bollywood, folk and western dance styles.

Join Marzi to learn the basics of classical Persian dance which prizes flexibility, grace, dominance of upper body moves and facial expressions.

This workshop shares music and dance influenced by Malawi. To participate, please bring a drum or a percussion instrument and immerse your self in rhythm.

Have fun learning the basic principles of producing vocal sound in a relaxed body and get a better understanding of melody, harmony, and rhythm.

Eri is going to share her culture through taking you to traditional Japan. In this workshop you will learn a Bon-odori dance. Bon-odori is a Japanese traditional community dance that is often danced at summer festivals across the country. The workshop will be accompanied with some movement warm-ups to get you ready to dance!

Come and learn the basic elements and story of the famous Samoan Sasa. A style of storytelling through group rhythmic dance using body percussion including claps, knee pats and hand gestures, performed either seated or standing.

Beat Latina specialize in traditional and contemporary dance forms from Chile, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, Argentina, USA, Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Led by Alejandra Osorio who has been teaching and performing in southern Tasmania since arriving in 2018, She thrives on sharing culture, history, music, dance forms and choreography. Beat Latina is an energetic and interactive way of sharing culture, body confidence and mostly letting go and having fun!
